SESsAv-35
Skala zur Erfassung von Störungen durch suchthaftes Arbeitsverhalten
Short abstract
The SESsAv-35 uses a theory-based approach to assess addictive work behavior among employed individuals as a specific form of behavioral addiction in German-speaking countries. In addition to the central characteristics of addiction, such as craving, loss of control, and psychosocial consequences, the SESsAv also assesses the facet of liking as an important characteristic of addiction for the first time. It is closely based on the criteria for behavioral addictions (ICD-11 & DSM-5) and uses the updated I-PACE model according to Brand et al. (2019) as the basis for the development and maintenance of addictive behavior. The characteristics of addictive behavior are measured using 35 items that can be assigned to the three dimensions of enthusiastic work drive, work-life imbalance, and limited control and health disorders. Reliability: The internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) is α = .94 for the overall scale and between α = .87-.94 for the subscales. Validity: Due to the test-theoretical construction and close alignment with the criteria for addiction (ICD-11), content validity can be assumed. Factorial validity was tested using exploratory factor analyses and confirmed with a good model fit (total variance 54.55%). There are initial indications of convergent and divergent validity. For this purpose, correlation analyses were performed with an existing measurement instrument for excessive and compulsive work (DUWAS-10; Schaufeli et al., 2009) and work engagement, among other things, and hypotheses were tested.
