NFT
Need for Touch Scale - deutsche Fassung
Short abstract
The NFT measures the motivation to use haptic information for decision making. It is the German translation of the questionnaire by Peck und Childers (2003a), which differentiates between two dimensions, the instrumental NFT and the autotelic NFT. Instrumental NFT refers to the need for haptic information with the aim of using it to solve problems. Autotelic NFT, on the other hand, represents the hedonic component of NFT (search for sensory stimulation and pleasure). The NFT scale comprises 12 statements. In addition to the total value, two partial scales (instrumental and autotelic need for haptic information) with six items each can be formed. Reliability: Cronbach's alpha for the subscale Autotelisches NFT Alpha = .91, for the subscale Instrumentelles NFT Alpha = .91 and for the total scale Alpha = .94. Validity: The low, non-significant correlations of the NFT scale with the Need for Cognitive Closure Scale (NFCC) and the Need to Evaluate Scale (r = -.06 to .18) as well as the exploratory verification of the discriminant validity of the three scales mentioned with the Fornell-Larcker criterion speak for the discriminant validity. The construct validity was tested in experimental studies showing hypothesis-compliant moderation effects of NFT.
